I had grown up going to church and was always a “good kid.” I lived, however, a hypocritical life where I would say one thing and quite often would do another. I was not a trouble maker and I generally obeyed the law, but the state of my heart was not pleasing to the LORD. John 3:30 says that He must increase and I must decrease and the life that I was living was a life full of myself and empty of Jesus.
I remember the Wednesday night that I let go and let God take control of my life. I was an athletic trainer for the outdoor track team at Northwest Missouri State University. We were in south Texas on spring break. The team had gotten done with practice and there was not a meet the next day, so we were trying to decide what to do that evening. One group was going shopping, another was headed to the bar another group wanted to just chill at the hotel. I overheard two of the male athletes talking about going to church that evening and I knew that was what I was supposed to do that night. I didn’t have fireworks, and I don’t have the Damascus Road experience to wow people with, but what happened in me that night was life changing. That night I made the decision to follow Christ with my whole life. I would live for Him, listen to Him and be unashamed of the Gospel. It doesn’t matter any longer what others are doing, I will follow Christ. Joshua said …as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Now all these years later I have a wonderful Godly wife named Tracy who has put up with me since 1997 (Praise the LORD)! We have some great kiddos too: Whitney, Micah, Bryson, Noah and Josiah. My family plays such a vital role in my life and in who I am. They are my first ministry and they are also a part of my ministry here at First Baptist Church. I have stumbled and fallen short so often but God has always been good and merciful to me. He is sufficient. Jesus' Blood paid the price for my sin and It will for yours too if you will ask Him. Jesus is THE way THE truth and THE life. So if you are searching for answers for life, turn to the One who created you and died for you—Jesus. |
